The 2017 C-Store Forum took place at The Don Carlos, Marbella on 15th and 16th May. Attracting an exclusive group of UK&I convenience retailers and suppliers.
Leading figures came together to trade opinions and ideas on contemporary issues facing all stakeholders in the industry; culminating in a panel discussion on topics including the living wage, dotcom business, and social media.
Delegates conducted over 500 meetings over the two days, as well as many informal encounters taking place in the Spanish sun. ‘We are in full flight closing out the next steps from the meetings – they were a great way to facilitate introductions,’ said Michael Twohig (Head of Store Development Operations, Musgrave Retail).
Wayne Swallow, of Platinum Partners htec, delivered a charismatic seminar entitled ‘Can Technology Save You Time & Make You Money?’ TLM Technologies also sponsored the event as Silver Partners.
Retailers in attendance included Conviviality Retail, Costcutter, Eros Retail, Penny Petroleum, Petrogas UK, and Today’s Group. These were complemented by attendance from suppliers such as Chopstix, FIFO Wireless, Vita Coco, and Zapper.

Simon Hannah joined the family business in 1998 and is currently a 5th generational family member to run the company. J.W. Filshill is a wholesale business based in Glasgow, who supply 8000 products to 1400 different businesses across Scotland and the North of England. The company runs a 175 strong convenience symbol group chain (KeyStore). Simon recently established an international business called The Craft Beer Clan of Scotland, is a non-executive director of Brewgooder, a Scottish based Craft Beer Social Enterprise who donates all profits to clean water projects in Malawi and is shortlisted for the EY Entrepreneur of the year in 2016. Simon is taking on the role of Chairman of the Today’s Group in March 2017.

Kash Khera is the co-founder and MD of SimplyFresh, a UK based Convenience Store Franchise formed in 2009. Before devoting his work fulltime to Simply Fresh, Kash was an independent retailer, having learnt his trade from the bottom up. These stores had always been operated to a very high standard and with a key focus on fresh and chilled, and a great understanding for the local community and demographic they served. This experience was fundamental in the conception of SimplyFresh, and as Kash is now looking at re focusing on company owned stores in London, will be ever more valuable.

Commencing his career in store operations with Spar, Paul’s career developed through Store Operations into store development and training before entering Wholesale with Booker and then 14 years in a variety of senior roles including Sales Director for Londis. Since 2014 Paul has consulted within the sector for a number of retailers & sector suppliers including Bestway Group setting up their Multiple Account business unit and leading the Conviviality Retail New Business Team. Paul’s diverse client base includes independent retailers & also Cost Management Consultants targeting cost reduction in C-Stores.

Wayne is responsible for developing products and relationships in the convenience sector and his customers include Booker, Bestway, Spar, Coop, Nisa and Costcutter.
