PetroForum Africa proves once again that nothing beats face-to-face

In this age of social media and online networking, there is a danger of becoming detached from your customers or business associates. Which is why over 185 delegates from 100 organisations from 32 countries across Africa and the rest of the world descended on Johannesburg for the third African PetroForum. Suppliers and oil companies alike were in agreement that face-to-face meetings are still the best way to do business and nurture relationships.

“Brilliant concept! Perfect platform to meet and interact with our target market, face-to-face. There is NO substitute for face- to-face communication!” Keenan Topley, Marketing Manager, Petromonitor

Oil companies from across Africa, including Vivo Energy, Puma, Total, Engen, Sasol, National Oil Corporation of Kenya, met with suppliers over two and a half days of intense pre-arranged business meetings and informal networking. Kicking off with a conference on the first day, market presentations came from Alan Reid at Puma Energy and industry expert Paul Kramer .This was rounded off with an awe-inspiring talk from motivational speaker and the first woman to row from Africa to the USA, Vasti Geldenhuys.

The program of over 900 meetings was complemented by technical workshops on petrol station design & construction, developments in wet stock management, underground storage tank innovations and brand value. The event concluded with two visits to Sasol service stations followed by lunch in the sun at the Cradle of Humankind.

The unique time-saving element of the event’s format was also noted by suppliers: “I find it difficult to imagine a better way to spend money if you want to explore previously unknown markets. Jussi Tomperi, Sales & Marketing Director, FLS Finland.
Partnering the event were Gilbarco Veeder-Root (Platinum Partner), Bever Innovations (Gold Partner) and CGH Group/Petrotank and First African Holdings as Silver Partners.

So the event was a resounding success and business was done. Alan Reid from oil company partner, Puma stated “We already have two new suppliers on the go as a result” and in the words of David Rosie from Artelia: “It was a brilliant event, as always. For ARTELIA it’s a must attend to ensure we keep up our profile in the market.”

The next regional PetroForums for the MENA and APAC regions take place in Oman, 29-30 September 2015 and Bangkok from 7-9 March 2016.
