Gilbarco Veeder-Root and Oando to open and chair PetroForum Africa Conference
Chaired by Oando’s Head of Retail, Rabiu Umar, and featuring speakers from leading oil companies, suppliers to the petroleum sector and industry specialists, the Conference at Africa’s first PetroForum promises to deliver presentations which will draw on a wealth of experience, as well as give you a chance to quiz our speakers and debate the issues arising from this complex emerging market.
Introducing the conference will be Gilbarco Veeder-Root’s President, Martin Gafinowitz. As headline sponsor, Gilbarco Veeder-Root’s support of the event reinforces its commitment to the African continent, highlighting just how big an opportunity this dynamic new market is.
The conference Chairman, Rabiu Umar, will kick off the keynote presentations with a look at Oando’s plans for the future, touching on how a government-owned subsidiary transformed into a major player in the energy value chain. As a leading retailer of petroleum products, Oando sells and distributes one in every five litres of petroleum in Nigeria via over 500 retail outlets. With Umar’s ten years’ in the organization, his extensive experience should give us an interesting insight into this leading African oil company.
Next up will be Gary Still, Executive Director at CITAC, a UK-based independent consultancy focusing on the downstream African energy market. His presentation will offer us an insight into the changing face of the African downstream market, exploring the exodus of the traditional oil majors, the arrival of the new players and the impact on the sector.
A presentation on Future Fuels, where we are and where we’re going, will be given by SAPIA’s Environmental Adviser, Anton Moldan. Anton will outline the process in place to introduce new fuel formulations best suited to South Africa’s local conditions. His talk will demonstrate how this can be done whilst keeping sight of SAPIA’s objective to foster cooperation and encourage consultation amongst government and other organizations in terms of health, safety and the protection of the environment.
Following on from Moldan, Viju Pullan, Marketing Director at Tokheim will shed light on how fuel loss control can favourably impact both the environment and the bottom line. Pullan will guide delegates through the latest technologies in remote wetstock monitoring, showing how they can offer the highest level of protection against environmental pollution and drive efficiency through early detection of controllable losses.
Closing the line-up will be a collaborative presentation from Shell and Wincor-Nixdorf, offering us a fascinating glance into the future of intelligent cash management systems.

Probably the best networking event I have ever been to. It was a great place to meet with work colleagues and peers and there was just the right amount of time for both business and socialising
